The short answer is no. The 186 visa has three entry pathways, each pathway has different eligibility requirements, which, if you can satisfy will make you eligible for a 186 visa.
The Temporary Residence Transition stream requires you to complete 3 years of work as a 457 or 482 TSS visa holder in the nominated role with your sponsoring employer and is just one of the pathways to permanent residence.
The Direct Entry Stream pathway on the other hand allows TSS Visa holders who have not been working in Australia for three years, or who have changed employers while working in Australia, to apply for Permanent Residency through the Direct Entry Stream as long as the applicant meets all other requirements. To be eligible for this stream an applicant’s occupation must be listed on the medium long-term skilled occupation list.
You may be able to apply for Permanent Residency through the direct entry stream if you meet the following requirements:
You must have at least 3 years work experience in your nominated occupation
You will need a positive skills assessment in your nominated occupation before applying for a 186 or through the direct entry stream unless exempt.
You must demonstrate competent English
- You are under 45 years of age
